~75 days. Purple skinned carrots with good flavor. This carrot is a cross of 5 different purple carrots - developed by Claire Luby & Irwin Goldman of U of Wisconsin, Madison with the goal of resilient, delicious, nutritious, open-source (non-patented) carrots for the future. Adapted for organic growing conditions right here in the upper Midwest! This is a "composite population" which means that the carrots will have natural variation but most will have purple skin with orange interior with a small % of roots with white or pink skin and/or white or purple interiors. We are really impressed by the carrot's vigor and strong tops which means that they compete better with weeds and are easier to harvest. Similar, yet earlier, than Dragon in size, shape, and color - wide at the top and tapered. The purple skins contain anthocyanins, which are thought to have many health benefits. Our seeds come from Clint Freund & Cass McKinnon, of Cultivating the Commons, who grew them out and selected for good flavor and purple skins. Wisconsin-OSC Purple was released under the Open Source Seed Initiative.

Carrots grow best in loose soil. Sow seeds directly outdoors April 15 – July 31, ¼” deep, ½” apart in rows 20” apart. Keep seeds consistently moist (you can cover them with row cover fabric to help keep them moist by shading them). Days to germination: 7-21 days (depending on soil temperature). Carrots need full sun, regular water, and to be kept well weeded. Carrots will be sweeter when grown during cooler weather. Sow seeds every 3 weeks for a continuous supply of carrots.
