Enjoy the hardiness and culinary versatility of thyme! This low-growing perennial herb thrives in both containers and garden beds even down to subzero temperatures. Its small aromatic leaves can be enjoyed fresh all summer or dried for the winter. With its antiseptic, antibiotic, and antifungal properties, thyme has been cherished for millennia.

Thyme is so cold hardy that it is one of the few herbs that can survive the winter reliably when planted in containers. It is hardy to zone 4.

(aka "German Winter Thyme")

90 days to maturity.

Start seeds inside 3/1-3/31 at 65-70°. Water soil & mix before sowing seeds. Sow seeds on the top of soil surface and sprinkle with a thin layer of soil mix. Keep seeds moist until germination by watering them with a mist (a handheld spray bottle works well for this). Cover seed flat with a dome to keep moisture in (but you should air it out 1x per day for 20 minutes to prevent fungal growth). Days to germination: 14-21. Transplant outside after last frost 5/20-6/30, spaced 8" apart. Plants are perennial but are a bit slow growing so harvest light the first year.
