An aromatic perennial herb with a bright, distinct lemon flavor and medicinal qualities.
Tender leaves are excellent for teas, cold drinks, tinctures, and fresh dishes. In summer, plants produce small white flowers that attract bees and other pollinators. Easy to grow and dependable.

Lemon balm is a relative of mint. It spreads a bit by roots but mostly it spreads by seed and will self-seed and may become weedy.  Removing the flower stalks by deadheading or shearing will encourage new leaf growth and prevent self-seeding.

Plants are 12-24" tall.

70 days to maturity.

Plant in full sun or part shade. Direct sow seeds outside in spring or fall (do not cover as seeds need light to germinate). Or Start seeds inside 3/15-7/15 at 65-70°. Water soil before sowing seeds. Sow seeds on soil surface and do not cover. Keep seeds moist until germination by watering them with a mist (a handheld sprayer works well for this) or bottom watering method. Cover seed flat with a dome to keep moisture in (but you should air it out 1x per day for 20 minutes to prevent fungal growth). Days to germination: 7-14. Lemon Balm may become weedy by self-seeding - deadhead or shear plants to minimize self-seeding. Transplant outside 5/15-8/1, spaced 12" apart
