Heirloom & Open Pollinated

Seeds are humanity's collective heritage - we believe that they should not be owned or controlled by corporations. You won't find hybrid seeds in our catalog because the process of producing hybrid seeds gives big companies proprietary ownership of hybrid seeds. In contrast, anyone can save seeds from heirlooms, keeping the seeds in the hands of the people!

Certified Organic/Sustainably Grown

Organic means safe for kids! Many of our seeds are Certified Organic - certified that they were grown using only USDA-approved organic methods. The rest of our seeds are sustainably grown - they were grown using organic methods, but due to the costs and time required for the certification process for small farmers, they are not certified organic.

Non-GMO

GMOs are created using the transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms. GMOs pose environmental risks as well as contribute to the corporate control of seeds. We have signed the Safe Seed Pledge and do not sell any GMO seeds!

Regionally Adapted

As a small seed farm located in southeast Michigan, we specialize in Midwest Adapted varieties. This means that our seeds are well-adapted to the Midwest climate - short, hot & humid summers, long winters, practically no spring and always gorgeous falls! Most of our varieties are widely adapted and can thrive in other regions too!

Our Farm

Our Farm

We grow over 30% of our seeds on our 130 acre certified organic farm. (learn about our other growers here)

Gently rolling hills grace our farm, located on the outskirts of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Our fields offer us zesty tomatoes, mouthwatering melons, and luscious peaches. Buzzing bees visit flowers that create abundant seeds. Oak woodlands burst with spring wildflowers, teem with blue spotted salamanders, and chime with bird song.

Our farm hosts inquisitive interns, stellar students, vivacious volunteers, and other fun learning adventures! Nature Learning Community gathers youngsters together for the study of nature and to renew their young hearts’ connection to the Earth. Our annual Harvest Festival brings our community together at the peak of the season to celebrate food, fun, and farming.

We are partnered with Open Source Seed Initiative

We have signed the Safe Seed Pledge

"Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative, we pledge that we do not knowingly buy, sell or trade genetically engineered seeds or plants. The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms, poses great biological risks as well as economic, political, and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately healthy people and communities."
